After much speculation, Daniel Craig has confirmed his return as James Bond for the 25th movie in the 007 series, which is due to be released in the US in November 2019. Having claimed he’d rather “slit his wrists” than play Bond again, the announcement comes as somewhat of a surprise, and it wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination to think that his 2019 appearance as 007 may very well be his last, leaving us to contemplate once again who the next James Bond could be. Will he be gay? Will he be black? Or could James even be a woman?
With actress Jodie Whittaker becoming the 13th Dr. Who, and the Ghostbusters’ legacy being revived with an all-female cast, the thought of a female incarnation of James Bond is starting to seem less and less far fetched.
Here is a selection of women that would make the most badass Bond ever:
Gillian Anderson
Gillian has all the poise (and the accent) of a Bond – and twice the balls. Her iconic roles as Dana Scully (The X Files) and Stella Gibson (The Fall) have proven that you don’t need a gun when you can cut your counterpart to pieces with your tongue.
Casey Legler
Measuring in at 6.2 ft, Casey cuts an imposing figure, and her athletic build and Olympic history put her in good stead for the action-packed task of being 007. Add to the mix her gender fluidity and ability to pull off a tux with flare, and you’ve got yourself a mercurial and dangerous 007.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lithe, suave and impeccably crisp, Lupita exemplifies the cool style of Bond. Add to that her steely resolve and award-winning acting and she’s sure to deliver a complex and sophisticated James. And those biceps! Don’t even get us started.
Ruby Rose
One thing’s for sure, Ruby certainly isn’t short of fans! Her dark looks and natural bad-assery would make for a cheeky and devilish Bond. I wonder how those tattoos would go down with M?
Noomi Rapace
Noomi proved her mettle in the Swedish trilogy The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Motor bikes, weapons and battling twisted nemeses are part of her repertoire. She’d more than match the physical challenges of a secret agent and her subtle performance would bring interesting notes and flavors to an all too familiar character.
Who do you think would make an excellent female James Bond?
