If you read my review of L.A. DragCon, you’ll remember my gushing words about my technically unofficial (because she doesn’t know it) Drag Mom. So with the convention officially open, and her booth only 10 feet away, it was only natural that our first point of call in New York was again… Michelle Visage.
What more can I say about this legend that I haven’t already said? After selling me what is possibly the world’s greatest tote (both visually and practically), she somehow remembered my friend and I from L.A., and gave us big hugs before signing and taking pictures. Even though I tend to be rendered speechless when in the presence of my idols, I managed to force out a few sentences. There’s no one else I’ve ever met who takes so much time to speak to you like Michelle. The autograph and photo are great – we all love getting those likes on Instagram – but for me it’s really about those few minutes she spends with you. It really feels like you have her complete attention, and she is genuinely interested in what you have to say. It’s why so many fans adore her so much, and why we couldn’t help going straight to her booth again, even though her husband probably thinks we’re a little nuts.
With Michelle under our belts, we did a sweep of the room. It was smaller than LA, and while the same number of tickets had been sold, as it was the first year in New York, it was a little ambiguous how many people would actually attend. It felt a little quiet so we weren’t worried about getting in line too early to meet anyone.
What does the “I dont know her’ button mean?
