3 Reasons Why You Should Support #noDAPL and the Camp of Sacred Stones

If you haven’t heard of the Dakota Access Pipeline and the protests at the Standing Rock reservation by now, here’s a quick synopsis: The Dakota Access Pipeline, or Bakken Pipeline, is being constructed primarily by Energy Transfer Partners (also known as Dakota Access, LLC), along with Philips 66, Enbridge, and Marathon Petroleum. These companies are spending 3.78 billion to construct the pipe as a faster, cheaper way to transport oil. Standing Rock Sioux tribe members, who identify as “water protectors” and “land defenders” have been leading the action against the pipeline due to its potential harm to the water supply… Keep Reading

Tila Tequila, Neo-Nazism, and Queer Women in Social Media

Thienh Thanh Thi Nguyen, aka “Tila Tequila,” has received a lot of backlash from her social media comments over the years. Her career began as a nude and import model, which slowly led to her achieving stardom as one of the first “internet-famous” celebrities. In 2006, she had the most-viewed profile on Myspace. Based on her cyber success, MTV created a dating reality show called A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, a series that capitalized on her bisexuality. Recently Tequila appeared at an Alt-Right Conference in Washington, D.C. where she was photographed doing the Nazi salute.   Click “Page… Keep Reading

LGBT EVENT DENIED TRANSGENDER COP

An LGBT event denied transgender cop Christine Garcia entry, during Transgender Awareness month. The event was held at a San Diego LGBT Community Center, and Officer Garcia was told not to enter on the premise that her uniform could upset others in attendance. Ironically, the decision to prevent Officer Garcia from entering was counterintuitive and horribly unaware. The event was held on November 17th, and was an annual event held to honor those who have lost their loved ones due to anti-transgender violence. Officer Garcia is the first transgender cop on the San Diego Police force, and had actually helped… Keep Reading

The Queer Side Of Thanksgiving: Classic Survival Tips

Pilgrims Party In P-Town While many people think that the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts, they actually arrived in one of the gayest towns in the world — Provincetown. The Pilgrims came to Provincetown in 1620 and spent five weeks there, during which time they created and signed the Mayflower Compact. There’s no word on whether they had time for tea dances or hanky panky under the docks, but we sure hope so! Keep Reading

Got vegans in the house this Thanksgiving?

Before you suggest there’s no way vegan biscuits can taste just as good if not BETTER than regular biscuits, everyone I’ve fed these to agree that these are in fact LEGIT, amazing, fluffy, buttery biscuits. As in, serve them to your 80-year old grandmother who’s been making biscuits for centuries and she wouldn’t know the difference. As in, slap some gravy on it and you’d think you died and gone to heaven. As in, fluffy, buttery, savory, biscuit perfection. It’s true. I have tried making vegan biscuits once before and they did not meet my ridiculously high biscuit standards. They… Keep Reading

Trump: What Does This Mean For The LGBT Community?

The LGBT community is in limbo right now, in terms of what to expect when Donald J.Trump takes his seat in the Oval Office this 2017. Many people forecast hostility from Trump towards civil-rights goals, given his past statements expressing the desire to change some of the political civil-rights gains achieved in the past eight years. In response to Trump’s victory which was announced Wednesday, November 9th, the nation’s largest LGBT Rights Organization the “Human Rights Campaign” reported a flurry of phone calls from community members.
