Catching Up With Jake Graf

in Entertainment & LifeStyle

The LGBT Sentinel had the pleasure of catching up with filmmaker Jake Graf- his engagement, his new projects, and what to look forward to. Congratulations on the proposal. So, can you tell us how you proposed and where? I proposed to Hannah whilst on holiday in New York two weeks ago. Hannah had always said that she’d like me to propose somewhere warm and away from London, so when we booked our annual break I started putting things in motion, finding a ring and speaking to her father, in truly traditional form! I took her out onto the pond in…

Doing Just Fine Inside The Closet

in Opinion

It’s that time of year again—the season when LGBTQ+ people are called upon to identify themselves to the masses. National Coming Out Day, October 11th, has just passed. In addition, the entire month has been dedicated to leaving the closet behind. Ever since I recognized my own queerness, I’ve felt uncomfortable on NCOD. But to be fair, it’s an event with a history we can all be proud of. The concept of “coming out” dates back to the 1800s, when early German advocates like Karl Heinrich Ulrichs and Magnus Hirschfeld promoted self-disclosure as a means of working towards equity for…

October: Coming Out

in Opinion

Coming out of the closet is probably the biggest step in any LGBT individual’s life. For many, it is a freeing feeling that they have desired for a long time, and some may not believe they will ever get there. No matter what you decide to do, it is important to keep in mind that coming out is YOUR decision and nobody else’s. You need to do it at a time in your life and with people that make you comfortable. Do not ever feel pressured to come out if you feel you are not ready. For those of you…

in Blog/Entertainment & LifeStyle/Real Talk/Weekly

Autumn is upon us! That means it’s AIDS walk season. This year in LA, the date is set for October 15th. AIDS walk is a global fundraising event where participants raise money through pledges. The funds are given to local AIDS education and service organizations. LA was home to the first ever AIDS walk back in 1985. AIDS Project Los Angeles, founded only a few years previously, set a goal for raising $100,000. At the end of the day, they had raised $673,000 to use for screening, treatment, counseling, education, and other free programs. This was a huge accomplishment in…
